The foods you eat can make a big difference. You have plenty of good choices,but remember it’s always best to first check with your doctor. Non-starchy Vegetables: Green beans, carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers and spinach. (Fresh, frozen or canned without added salt) Fruit: Apples, blueberries, oranges, peaches, pears. (Fresh, frozen or canned without added sugars)Milk: Fat-free or low-fat 1%, unflavored soy milk, plain, nonfat yogurt (choose milk and yogurt without added sugars)Grains & starchy vegetables: Whole grain foods, beans, peas and lentils (without added fats, sugars or salt)Look for cereals and breads with whole grains listed at the first ingredient. The best choices for beans; kidney, pinto and black beans. Lentils and dried peas, fat-free refried beans and vegetarian baked beans.
