Food Safety Week runs from June 1st to June 7th, reminding people to properly cook and store their food to prevent illnesses.

June 1st โ€“ June 7th is Food Safety week. The purpose is to raise awareness of food-borne illnesses and how people can prevent such illnesses from happening. Food safety is described as the handling, cooking and storage of food in the best way to prevent food-borne illnesses. There are some simple things you can do to prevent food-borne illnesses; regular washing of your hands and surfaces when preparing food, always separate raw and cooked foods and cooking meals at the correct temperature.

Highland Valley Elder Servicesโ€™ Registered Dietitian Brandon Walton visits local senior centers and council on aging centers providing food demonstrations and he also provides nutrition counseling.
