Falls Prevention
Awareness Week
Sept 18 to Sept 24

More than one-fourth of Americans age 65+ falls each year.
The majority (60%) of falls happen in the home, 30% in a public setting, and 10% in a health care center. Falls can greatly impact the quality of life and cause limitations in everyday activities & social engagements for older adults.

The Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs would like to invite you to help us raise awareness on preventing falls & reducing falls risk.

Join us in our 4th annual step challenge!

Last year, we almost doubled our goal & collectively accomplished a total of 43,352,487 Steps!!!

So for 2022, we are stepping up our goal to achieve a statewide total of
45 Million Steps!!

If you would like to participate simply take a walk (or run!) in the name of falls prevention anytime throughout the month of September. You can use your own step counter or count each mile as 2,500 steps. Family & pets are welcome to join in. Remember to wear yellow!

Log your step count here: https://app.keysurvey.com/f/41629693/130e/

You can fill out the form as many times as you would like either as a group or an individual.

We encourage you to share the link with your staff, community partners and older adults in your community!

Share your results, comments and/or photos on social media using #MASteps2PreventFalls.
