Protective Services

Are you concerned for the safety of a loved one, a community member or yourself?

Unfortunately, many elders in the community are at risk and in need of assistance.  There are individuals who take advantage of vulnerable elders financially, physically and/or emotionally.  If you have a reasonable cause to believe that someone is taking advantage of a senior that you know, or you feel you are at risk.  Please call Highland Valley Elder Services for help and protection.

Call the Massachusetts Central Intake Unit for Protective Services at (800) 922-2275 to file a report of concern.  If you have other questions about or need further information, please call us directly at (413) 586-2000.

About Protective Services

Protective Services works with individuals over the age of 60 living in the community.  Abuse of elders includes physical, emotional, and sexual abuse, neglect by a caregiver, self-neglect and financial exploitation.  The goal of Protective Services is to alleviate the abuse, neglect, or exploitation and to prevent any re-occurrence of risk.

Individuals who are required by law to report concerns of elder abuse, Mandated Reporters, should call the Elder Abuse Hotline at (800) 922-2275 to report any abuse concerns.  Once the report is filed, Mandated Reports are asked to complete and fax the Mandated Reporter Form within 48 hours to the appropriate Protective Services agency.

Anyone can make an elder abuse report.  If you are concerned about any type of abuse, please don’t hesitate to call us at (800) 922-2275.

Get the Support You Need

Ombudsman and protective services staff play a vital role in ensuring welfare, safety and high quality of care. They can be a valuable resource for long term care residents, elders, family members and caregivers.

"When I needed to speak to someone privately about my concerns, I was able to turn to the ombudsman. It really made a difference talking to a person who wasn't an employee at the facility. I received the information and support I needed to stay in control here." -- Long Term Care Resident
